The Invasion
2020
Acrylic on canvas
36 x 60 in.
Is a painting I envisioned during the pandemic: A woman who lives in a crowded city had cloistered herself in her home with her family. Seclusion affected her more than the rest. In her paranoia, she read the wrong literature. Under those circumstances, she should have known that George Orwell’s 1984 was a no-no. She photographed her family compulsively and saw through her window UFOs that did not really exist. She filled herself with all kinds of elixirs that took her far away. She drank plenty of coffee and took to chain smoking. One late afternoon, she heard the news that everything was under control and that one could run wild and free. She dropped her lit cigarette on one of the pictures displayed on top of her kitchen counter, put on her running shoes, grabbed her purse, and left her house.
